Unsolved Disappearance of Pierre Pelseneer: Extensive Search Efforts and Community Support in Boraine

It was last July 6. Like every morning, Pierre Pelseneer got on his bike to go for his daily ride on the paths of Ravel. The Quaregnonnais was expected at home at the end of the morning by his wife. He never came back. Since then, he has not given the slightest sign of life. His wife, daughters and family do not know what happened to him.

The Boraine police, helped by the disappearance unit of the federal police, combed the surrounding area, without success. Again this week, the police deployed on the ground to try to find the slightest clue, in vain.

Refine searches

Pierre’s family launched an appeal on social networks to organize a hunt. The aim is to extend research to areas which have not yet been exploited, in vegetation, recently mowed land, bushes, while respecting private property.

“At first, we wanted to go through the whole of Ravel 98 to try to find his trace. Under the advice of the police, we will mainly focus on Frameries where Dad would have been seen. Searches have already been carried out there by the police but we are not losing hope. We are going to concentrate mainly on areas where vegetation is abundant and could therefore have prevented us from seeing our dad directly,” Maude Pelseneer told us this week.

Dressed in yellow vests

On Saturday, around sixty people responded to the call. There were friends of Maude and Valérie, Pierre’s daughters, but also people who wanted to help, like Jocelyne, who came from Jemappes with her colleague. She didn’t know Pierre, “but if this had happened to my dad, I would have liked people to come,” she said.

Dressed in yellow vests, the marchers formed a group, around a leader responsible for liaising with the police. She gave them instructions. “The person we are looking for wore glasses. If you find a pair of glasses, call us,” says a police officer.

Each group had a sector located along the Ravel, which is 48 kilometers long, to search. With their noses on a map which allows them to find their way, each leader indicated the areas to search. The groups received a photo of Pierre, a description of the clothes he was wearing and his bike which, unfortunately, was not equipped with a GPS beacon.

Franco-Belgian solidarity

Among these groups were French people, notably members of the regional missing persons association, who contacted Pierre’s daughters to help them.

Maude and Valérie hope to find the slightest clue, and are happy with the support of the Boraine police, who are not giving up on the matter, in particular using a drone to fly over the area. “The entire borain area will be covered,” indicates Commissioner Ciavarella, who directs operations. The police also visited second-hand stores to see if Pierre’s bike had been put up for sale. The bike was never found.

On Saturday evening, police indicated that no evidence had been found, but the investigation continued.
