Aryna Sabalenka did not provide details for her start at the Masters in Cancun, Mexico. The world No. 1 won 6-0 6-1 in front of Maria Sakkari.
The 25-year-old Belarusian attacked her tournament perfectly, and defended her place at the top of the world rankings against the Polish Iga Swiatek (WTA 2), placed in the other group.

Despite several tight games, Sabalenka was perfect on the decisive points (5 break points saved, 4 converted out of 9). Trailing 6-0, 5-0, Sakkari (9) fought to score a game and avoid a humiliating double 6-0. The Belarusian thus took revenge compared to the group stages of the 2022 and 2021 Masters, where she was dominated twice by the Greek.
In the first match of the tournament, Jessica Pegula defeated Elena Rybakina 7-5 6-2. The American was able to read the Kazakh’s serve better and better to sign a convincing victory which launched her perfectly into this Masters.
