Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that Until Dawn 2 will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027. Developed by Firesprite with narrative assistance from AdHoc Studio, the single-player horror title shifts its setting from snowy mountains to the tropical Pacific island of Akishima.
Firesprite Creative Director Stu Tilley announced the release date in a September 3 PlayStation Blog post alongside a trailer marking the opening of pre-orders. Pre-orders for both the standard and digital deluxe editions officially opened on September 10 via the PlayStation Store, priced at $49.99 and $59.99 respectively in the United States.
Shifting Terrors to the Island of Akishima
Abandoning the freezing slopes of the original game, the sequel centers on an internet ghost-hunting crew known as Dead True. Primarily known for staging frightening scenes for online audiences, the group signs a deal with a major television network to film their first fully funded episode on the abandoned island of Akishima. Staged scares quickly give way to genuine horrors rooted in centuries-old secrets and a desire for vengeance.
The signature Butterfly Effect mechanic returns, with Firesprite emphasizing that interpersonal relationships among the team carry severe consequences. Depending on player choices, all eight members of the Dead True crew can either survive or perish. Players step into the shoes of the eight characters, including Owen, played by Dacre Montgomery; Luke, played by Gavin Leatherwood; and Cameron, portrayed by Tanner Buchanan.
