Unveiling Minsk’s Literary Treasure: ‘Anya from Ingleside’ Brings Timeless Whimsy to Belarus

The sixth book in the series about Anya Shirley.

Seven years have passed since the events in Anya’s Dream House. Anya and Gilbert live in Ingleside and have five children: James Matthew (Jem), Walter, twins Anna (Nan) and Diana (Dee), Shirley. Anya gives birth to her sixth child – Bertha Marilla Blythe, Rilla for short, who will become the subject of delight and adoration of all her brothers and sisters.

The action of the novel spans about six years. The children gradually grow up, find friends, get into troubles, from which Anna and Gilbert have to help them out, remembering their own childhood pranks.

The story that began with Anne of Green Gables continues to captivate millions of people around the world thanks to the characters created by Lucy Maud Montgomery and their close-knit family. A good read that immerses you in an atmosphere of comfort and warmth, which is so lacking in our fast-paced and sometimes cruel age.

The Anya Shirley novels are a classic coming-of-age story with ups and downs, sorrows and joys. In 2017, a very soulful series “Anne” was released, based on a series of novels about Anne.
