Several months of work await Sherbrooke residents between now and 2025. The Ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) unveiled its action plan on Wednesday.

The 30,000 motorists who use the Darche interchange daily will have to be patient.

Preparatory work will begin on Monday. The MTQ asks users to find alternative routes.

Until August 21, two of the four dials that enter and exit Highway 410 will be closed.

The ramps near the Complexe de la Santé and the Chevrolet will be blocked to traffic, but those near the Hôtel Le Président and those near the IGA will remain open.

The ramps that will remain open during the preparatory works will be those that will be removed from the new Darche interchange.

The plans call for only two dials to be kept and for a new ramp to be fitted.

Thus, there will be no more crossings on the highway between the entrance and exit ramps, knowing that several accidents have occurred there in recent years.

It is in 2024 that the bulk of the work will be done.

The hindrances will be even greater between April and November next year. A temporary bridge will have to be built and the one that is at the end of its life will be demolished in order to build a new one.

The new interchange will be commissioned in December 2024. There will then be finishing works in 2025 to install the traffic lights, among other things.

A multipurpose path will also be developed for pedestrians and cyclists by teams from the Ville de Sherbrooke.

The $77 million work should be completed in the fall of 2025. By then, tens of thousands of motorists will have to change their habits.
