One of Umm Tayseer’s relatives told Emarat Al-Youm the story of her suffering with the disease, saying: “Umm Tayseer was working as a pharmacist in a hospital, and her health condition deteriorated significantly, and she became severely obese. She was admitted to the hospital to diagnose her condition, and it turned out that the cause was Obesity is a defect in the lymphatic gland, and as a result, she developed hernias in several areas of her body, especially in the navel and abdominal area.”
He added: “She underwent five surgeries, which included installing mesh in the hernia sites, but her weight increased significantly after she left the hospital and stayed at home, reaching 270 kilograms.”
He continued: “Her health condition deteriorated significantly, as she contracted pus and bacteria at the site of the operation. She was returned to the hospital where she underwent the operation, and it became clear after the medical examination that there was a mesh embedded in the flesh, with trapped fluids that were not draining into her body.”
He continued, “The cost of treatment at Cleveland Hospital in Abu Dhabi amounts to 320 thousand dirhams, including intensive medical follow-up, treatment to reduce weight, drain fluids from the body, and treat the lymph nodes. You also need a thoracic surgeon and endocrinologist. This is an amount beyond our modest financial capabilities, and I do not know what it means.” Working in light of the patient’s health condition.”
He explained, “Her psychological condition is difficult, as she has currently been hospitalized for two weeks, noting that the bed she needs is of a special type due to her heavy weight, and her brother is her sole breadwinner.”
