The community relays of the health zone of Alunguli in Kindu (Maniema) alerted, Saturday, September 2, on cases of measles in children under 5 years of this area.
They plead for an urgent intervention to cut the chain of contamination especially in this period when the nurses are on strike.
The secretary of the Health Committee of the Kam 2 health area, Victor Maluba Songe, speaks of at least 20 cases of measles recorded in this entity, precisely in the Kasongo animation cell.
« We are community relays, we were in the pre-marking period of the OPV campaign Editor’s note: anti-measles vaccine, we noticed that many children, particularly in the Kasongo animation cell, are affected by measles. Currently we have already registered more than 20 children who are affected by measles “, he warned.
This community relay is worried that this disease will reappear while the nurses are on strike:
“But, what is still serious, this disease comes at a time when health workers are on strike. So parents find it difficult to treat their children, some are even pushing to resort to traditional treatment which also causes problems”.
Victor Maluba Songe launches an SOS for rapid care of patients in order to break the chain of contamination:
“So far, we have not yet registered any cases of death, but we fear that this could happen in the coming days since there is a lack of quality care. This is how I am already sending out a message to all those involved in the health sector to see, as far as possible, together with the Government how, for this period, they can seek mechanisms to take caring for those children who are affected by measles”.
