“In these times of environmental and climate crises and with my growing sense of urgency, I am unable to continue my mandate as alderman in an acceptable manner.” Here is how Odile Bury (Ecolo) alderman announced her resignation on Facebook this Monday morning. Alderman since 2018 in Watermael-Boitsfort, in charge of Transition, Environment, Hygiene, Information and IT, Youth, International Solidarity, Animal Welfare, she leaves his mandate but also the municipal council.
”Each week leads me to participate in decisions that increase our ecological footprint and the amount of greenhouse gases we release into the atmosphere rather than decreasing them […] We are creating new unnecessary “needs”, suddenly destroying the efforts that are being made elsewhere in terms of ecological transition. I personally do not see the way to continue participating in a system which adds at great expense to municipal missions the installation of a plastic ice rink during the Christmas market but which reduces organic food in nurseries due to lack of budget. ” A barely veiled attack on the majority, which she subsequently evokes in her post: “I have not managed to share the degree of extreme urgency that I feel to act in terms of environment and transition, as I have not succeeded in sharing within the current majority the need to be stronger alongside the new Boitsfortoise youth.”
Eco leader for the 2024 elections in Watermael-Boitsfort, Tristan Roberti learned the news this Monday morning. “There is no tension within the Ecolo local,” he assures. Everyone is free to interpret the message as they want.”
For the future, in the “next two to three weeks, a general assembly of the local will be convened to appoint a new Ecolo alderman from among the municipal councilors. A call for applications will be launched.”
