US announces $40,000 reward for information about man nicknamed “Fat Leonard”

The US government has offered a $40,000 reward for information about a Malaysian defense contractor nicknamed “Fat Leonard” who escaped from house arrest. A defendant in one of the biggest bribery scandals in the US Navy escaped weeks before sentencing. AP reports.

Leonard Francis Glenn, a two-meter native of Malaysia weighing 130 kg, was the owner of Glenn Defense Marine Asia Ltd. According to the prosecution, he entered into contracts with the US Navy for towing, security and waste disposal. These contracts were overpriced.

In exchange for making lucrative deals, “Fat Leonard” offered the officers the services of sex workers, orgies, money, luxury hotels and expensive cigars. He pleaded guilty in 2015. During this time, a total of 33 people were convicted in the case, including more than two dozen officers. One of the officers pleading guilty said that representatives of the US Navy also transmitted information about the movement of ships to Fat Leonard.

On September 4, 2022, “Fat Leonard”, who was under house arrest, cut off his location bracelet and escaped. US intelligence agencies believe he is in Mexico. The border was 40 minutes from his home in San Diego.
