The US government expects the first vaccinations once morest the corona virus for children under the age of five from June 21. The prerequisite is the expected approval of the FDA and a corresponding recommendation from the health authority CDC, said the coronavirus coordinator of the White House, Ashish Jha, yesterday.
After that, it will be some time before the program starts and the vaccines are available on a larger scale. “We assume that within a few weeks all parents who want to have their child vaccinated will be able to get an appointment.”
Jha said the FDA committee will review data provided by manufacturers Pfizer/Biontech and Moderna for their vaccines, which are intended to be used in children six months and older, on June 14 and 15.
A decision is expected shortly therefollowing. After that, the CDC will make its recommendation. Currently, Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine is approved in the United States for children ages five to 11.
