The US Central Command (Centcom) said that it destroyed, on Friday, three anti-ship missiles belonging to “Houthi terrorists” in the Red Sea.

The leadership explained in a statement via: X The move comes “as part of ongoing efforts to protect freedom of navigation and prevent attacks on naval vessels.”

The Houthi missiles were directed toward the southern Red Sea and were ready to be launched from Yemen, according to the statement.

The command confirmed that it “determined that the missiles pose an imminent threat to commercial ships and US Navy ships in the region,” which prompted it to destroy them.

The leadership believes that this “measure will make international waters safe and secure for US Navy ships and commercial ships.”

Last week, the United States and Britain launched a series of strikes on Houthi military sites in Yemen, before the US army this week again targeted the Yemeni rebels, which Washington reclassified as a terrorist group.

This comes in response to dozens of attacks carried out by the Houthis on commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea, which they say are linked to or headed to Israel, in support of the Gaza Strip, where a war has been raging between Hamas and the Hebrew countries since October 7.
