“This is part of the increasing aggressiveness of the Chinese army…” said John Kirby, Strategic Communications Coordinator at the National Security Council, during a press conference today, Monday, commenting on recent cases of rapprochement between US and Chinese military aircraft and ships.

He also said, “We will continue to maintain open lines of communication with the Chinese side,” noting that “these objections will not be accepted.”

These statements come following two incidents involving the US and Chinese armed forces in the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea during the past ten days.

On Saturday, the US Navy accused a Chinese ship of maneuvering unsafely around one of its destroyers, which was sailing through the Taiwan Strait with a Canadian ship.

While China did not mention the incident, but accused the United States and Canada of “deliberately causing trouble in the Taiwan Strait,” in which it claims sovereign rights.

Washington also accused a Chinese pilot of carrying out an “unprovoked aggressive maneuver” near a US reconnaissance plane flying over the South China Sea on May 26.

Beijing accused the US plane of having “deliberately stormed” a training area in China “to carry out reconnaissance operations.”

This comes as relations between Beijing and Washington are already very tense over issues such as Taiwan and a Chinese balloon flight over the United States in late 2022.
