US Department of Justice Seizes Iranian Oil Tanker and Threatens Escalation: Latest Updates on Washington’s Sanctions Enforcement

On September 8, the US Department of Justice confirmed that it had seized a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker carrying Iranian oil off the coast of Texas, the Suez Rajanand its cargo of 980,000 barrels of crude oil.

The US agency claims that the Suez Rajan was transporting Iranian oil to China in April, violating sanctions imposed by Washington on Tehran. He also indicated that the US Government obtained an embargo order once morest the oil tanker.

Ashtiani also warned that if Washington continues to steal oil shipments from Iran, his country is capable of launching a response on “a larger scale” in due course.

Under the guise of sanctions enforcement operations, Washington has seized foreign vessels transporting Iranian oil around the world in recent years.
