Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is in its second year and can therefore no longer be seen as a “rapid special operation”, as Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin initially called it. While armistice and diplomacy are increasingly seen as fallacious hopes, US historian Stephen Kotkin also considers controversial possibilities for “victory in peace.”
