US implements new requirement for sponsors of Humanitarian Parole program

Attention Cubans who wish to emigrate to the north. The US implements a new requirement for sponsors of the Humanitarian Parole program to the United States.

Sponsors of the Humanitarian Parole program in the United States, which benefits Cuban, Venezuelan, Haitian and Nicaraguan citizens, will have to comply with a new requirement: fingerprinting.

Something we have already discussed on these pages, but which was updated this weekend, according to local media.

According to an internal email from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) accessed by Miami-based media outlet Martí Noticias, there is more news on this matter: sponsors will receive a digital appointment for this process.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had suspended the program in early August due to reports of fraud in applications. However, the program was reactivated with several modifications, including a requirement that sponsors register their fingerprints with USCIS, a process that costs $30.

A USCIS official, speaking on condition of anonymity, explained that sponsors do not need to wait for a notification by mail.

“With the digital receipt that arrives in your USCIS account, you can go to the corresponding center to have your fingerprints taken and your application will be processed,” he said.

Since the program resumed at the end of August with this new requirement, USCIS has served numerous sponsors, especially for new applications. The notification for fingerprinting will be reflected directly in the sponsor’s digital account on the USCIS portal.

More than two million requests for humanitarian parole have been filed, according to leaked data from a report on the program.

The most recent update from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reveals that since the start of the immigration program in January 2023, a total of 530,000 people have arrived in the United States.

Of the 111,000 Cubans processed under this program, more than 110,000 have already entered U.S. territory.
