In 2023, the United States imported a shipment of oil of almost 37 thousand barrels from Russia – the first in a year and a half – and in November it bought about 10 thousand more barrels, indicate data from the US statistical service analyzed by Sputnik.

In March 2022, Washington banned the import of oil and other energy products from Russia as part of the tightening of sanctions. The last batch of Russian crude oil was purchased by United States companies in April 2022.

However, according to statistical data, the United States purchased about 36,800 barrels of Russian oil in October 2023 for a price of 2.7 million dollars.

A month later, in November, American companies bought Russian oil again, this time 9,900 barrels for a total of 750,000 dollars. In both cases the hydrocarbon was acquired for consumption.

In October 2023, a barrel of Russian crude oil cost the United States $74 and in November, $76. This is much more than the Russian oil price cap of $60 per barrel imposed by Washington.
