The United States will take steps to prevent U.S. chipmakers from selling products to China that circumvent government restrictions, a U.S. official said, as part of upcoming actions by the Biden administration to effectively block more exports of artificial intelligence chips.
The new rules, details of which Archyde.com is reporting for the first time, will come on top of broad U.S. restrictions on shipments of advanced chips and chipmaking equipment to China, unveiled last October. Updates are expected this week, according to other people familiar with the matter, although such timelines are not always met.
