Washington, USA (CNN)– An official American source revealed to the network CNNOn Wednesday, the United States and Iran exchanged messages, after Bombing the Iranian consulate in Syria 7 members of the Revolutionary Guard were killed, and Tehran vowed revenge against Israel.

The source said there was an “ongoing exchange of private messages” between the US and Iran this week, as the US remains on high alert in anticipation of a possible retaliatory strike by Tehran against Israel.

The source added that Iran continued to warn the United States against supporting Israel, and the United States continued to warn Iran against launching an attack.

US officials are deeply concerned about the possibility of a retaliatory attack in the Middle East by Iran or its proxy groups in response to the Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus. A State Department spokesman said last week that the United States had warned Iran “not to use this as a pretext to attack American personnel and facilities.”

A retaliatory strike inside Israel could ignite a massive regional conflict that the United States seeks to deter.

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said on Tuesday: “We are monitoring public statements by Iranian officials and public reports of Iranian plans for possible retaliatory measures.”
