US Ironman dies in traffic accident while training for Hawaii

He had beaten cancer and became an Ironman athlete: Brian Kozera was killed in a traffic accident in Pennsylvania. He trained for the World Cup in Hawaii.

American Ironman athlete Brian Kozera has died in a collision with a car. This is reported unanimously by several US media. The 44-year-old was apparently on his racing bike when he collided with a Toyota pickup at an intersection.

Kozera made headlines because cancer got him into extreme sports. He was diagnosed with a form of lymph node cancer in 2014. “To say we were shocked would be an understatement,” Kozera wrote on his website. Multiple tumors were found on the police officer. Shortly before, his daughter Avery was born, who was diagnosed with a genetic defect. “My family needed me, so I decided to fight cancer.” A year later he had achieved his goal. This experience made him turn to Ironman, he wrote on his blog.

This year he had planned to represent the “Leukemia and Lymphoma” Society at Ironman in Hawaii – the International Ironman Championships, the oldest and most prestigious competition. In this context, he collected donations for the cancer society – he had already reached 70 percent of the $ 100,000 at the time of his death. He had actually planned to collect money at starts in Italy and Atlantic City as well as in Ho’ala and to run the “Ice Marathon” in Antarctica in addition to the Ironman in Hawaii.
