US Open: David Goffin qualifies for the third round

David Goffin qualified for the third round of the US Open on Thursday. Goffin, ranked 78th in the world, defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino (ATP 42) in four sets after three hours and 50 minutes of play in the second round on the hard surface of Flushing Meadows (6-7(8/10); 6-3; 6-2; 7-6 (7/1)).

The Liège native will meet Czech Tomas Machac (ATP 39) in the round of 16, who beat American Sebastian Korda (ATP 16/N.16) 6-4, 6-2, 6-4. In his eleven previous participations, Goffin, 33, has reached the round of 16 of the US Open four times, which is his best result.
