US Open; Francis Tiafoe overthrew Nadal

America’s Frances Tiafoe defeated Rafael Nadal in the fourth round of the US Open. Tiafoe, the 22nd seed, defeated 22-time Grand Slam champion Nadal 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. He will face Russia’s Andrei Rublev in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Tiafoe defeated Nadal 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in a three-hour and 34-minute battle to reach the quarterfinals. Francis produced a career-best performance at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. With the win, Tiafoe kept alive his dreams of becoming the first home player to win the US Open title in 19 years.

Tiafoe became the first American to reach the last eight in New York since John Isner in 2018 and the youngest since Andy Roddick in 2006. Meanwhile, ninth seed Andrei Rublev defeated Cameron Knorr with a score of 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
