US nuclear submarine to South Korea to enhance deterrence capabilities

A senior US official announced today, Wednesday, that his country will send a nuclear submarine to stop in South Korea to enhance deterrence capabilities in the face of North Korea.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the deployment of the submarine, which is equipped with nuclear-capable ballistic missiles, will be announced within the framework of the “Washington Declaration” to be approved by US President Joe Biden and his South Korean counterpart Yoon Sok Yul, who is currently visiting Washington.

On Monday, Sok Yol began a six-day visit to the United States, which came as the two allies sought to enhance military cooperation between them in the face of North Korean nuclear threats, which this year conducted a record number of missile launches.

South Korea and the United States conducted joint air exercises for a period of 12 days, which began on April 16, with the aim of strengthening deterrence once morest “military threats” to North Korea.
