Fourth operation survived

So far, fate has not been particularly kind to Alice Merryweather (25). After the American had to skip the 2020/21 season due to her eating disorders, she fell badly during training in Saas Fee VS last September.
The consequences were severe abrasions on the face, a broken tibia and fibula, a torn cruciate ligament and a broken meniscus in the left knee. The season was over before it even started. “My heart is broken, I’m a little scared and everything feels incredibly unsafe,” wrote the speed specialist on Instagram at the time.
“Exemplary resilience”
Now there is light at the end of the tunnel. On Monday, the 2017 Junior World Champion had her fourth and final surgery, the US Ski Team said on social media: “During her rehabilitation, she has shown exemplary resilience. You can do it, Al!”
However, it is not clear when the 25-year-old will be able to go back on the skis. Even less when she can join the ski circus. For the coming winter, however, it is likely to be tight. The way back still seems far.
Merryweather, who has finished in the top ten in the World Cup twice in her career (Garmisch 2019 and Crans-Montana 2020), thanks her family, friends and fans for “the best support in the whole world”. (che)
