Although no record was broken, new history was made on the Paris Olympic track on Monday morning (8/5). For the first time, all runners who competed in the men’s 100m final recorded times under 10 seconds.

American runner Noah Lyles, who won the event with a time of 9.79 seconds, almost finished together with Kishane Thompson. He was only five thousandths of a second behind the Jamaican sprinter. Meanwhile, bronze was won by another American sprinter, Fred Kerley (9.81 seconds).

As reported on the official Olympic website, in the next positions are South African runner Akani Simbine (9.82) and previous Olympic champion, Marcel Jacobs from Italy (9.85).

So far, Lyles has not been able to break Usain Bolt’s world record of 9.58 seconds. The same goes for the Olympic record set by the Jamaican runner at the 2012 London Olympics with a time of 9.63 seconds.

However, Lyles still has the chance to break the world record (19.19 seconds) and the Olympic record (19.30 seconds) which is also in Bolt’s name in the 200m race, which will be contested on August 9. (M-3)
