The US State Department spokesman said on Saturday that the United States is ready to take diplomatic steps if the Ukrainian government deems them helpful, following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the West should get more involved in negotiations to end the war.
“If there are diplomatic steps that we can take that the Ukrainian government believes are helpful, we are ready to take them,” the spokesman added.
“We are working to put the Ukrainians in the strongest possible negotiating position, including intensifying pressure on Russia by incurring heavy costs, and by providing security assistance to the Ukrainians to defend themselves,” he added.
