USA-Africa Summit: Mr. Akhannouch meets in Washington with the President of the MCC

Washington – The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, had talks on Wednesday in Washington with the President of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), Alice Albright.

This interview, which took place in the presence of the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, takes place within the framework of the United States-Africa Leaders’ Summit which is being held from December 13 to 15 in the federal capital. American and in which Mr. Akhannouch represents His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

During this interview, the Head of Government stressed that the two MCC compacts from which Morocco has benefited, for a total amount of around 1 billion dollars, have had an extremely positive impact for the local populations.

For her part, Ms. Albright stressed that these Compacts carried out in Morocco are an “example of success” for the MCC.

The two parties also expressed their “great satisfaction” with the state of progress of Compact II, whose commitment rate exceeds 90% and the disbursement rate is close to 80%.

To this end, Mr. Akhannouch invited the President of the MCC to come and celebrate the closing of Compact II in Morocco during the year 2023.

Convinced of the exemplary relationship between the MCC and the Kingdom of Morocco, the two parties expressed their desire to explore together the means of continuing their collaboration.

In a statement to the press following this meeting, Ms. Albright highlighted the “long-standing and very productive” cooperative relations between Morocco and the Millennium Challenge Corporation.

The US-Africa Leaders’ Summit brings together representatives of nearly 50 countries, civil society and the private sector from the African continent, in addition to officials from the US administration and the African Union Commission.

Participants in this three-day conclave discuss several issues ranging from the Covid-19 pandemic to climate change, including democracy, governance, security, trade, investments and the development of partnerships between African countries. and the United States.
