LOS ANGELES (AP) — Usher will be the star of the halftime show at the 2024 Super Bowl at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
The NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation announced Sunday that Usher will be the featured entertainer at the Feb. 11 concert.
The musical star, winner of eight Grammys, expressed his enthusiasm for performing at the NFL grand finale.
“It is the honor of a lifetime to add a Super Bowl performance to my bucket list,” Usher said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to putting on a show unlike anything that’s been seen from me before.”
Usher rose to stardom with the success of “Confessions,” which sold more than 10 million copies in the United States and received eight nominations at the 2005 Grammys, taking home three. He lost in the Album of the Year category to Ray’s latest album. Charles, “Genius Loves Company”, which went on sale two months after the legend’s death.
“Confessions” ranks among one of the best-selling productions of all time, with No. 1 hits like “Yeah!” with Ludacris and Lil Jon, “Burn” and “Confessions Part II.” Its special edition included the hit “My Boo,” a duet with Alicia Keys. Next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the epic album.
Usher, 44, is currently starring in a Las Vegas residency — “Usher: My Way” — to sold-out crowds and rave reviews. He began a series of eight concerts in Paris on Sunday. Usher will complete his residency in Las Vegas at the beginning of December and two months later he will participate in the Super Bowl.
Last year, a pregnant Rihanna appeared suspended from a platform above the court, her first solo performance in seven years.
Usher will join a long list of musicians who have performed during the Super Bowl halftime shows, including Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Prince, U2, Janet Jackson, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Shakira and Coldplay.
