Using the PlayStation 5 in an upright position can damage it

Sony claims that the PlayStation 5 game console can be used both horizontally and vertically. However, some bloggers and hardware repair experts say that when the PS5 is installed vertically, the risk of its failure is significantly increased.

In particular, blogger 68Logic, a member of the PlayStation community, who over ten years owns an equipment repair shop in France, informedthat using the PS5 in an upright position might damage it, and he has experienced similar cases with his customers.

According to him, when the PS5 is mounted vertically, the liquid metal used to cool the console can leak, which can at least affect its cooling efficiency or even lead to a short circuit.

Ben Montana, owner of ILoveMyConsole, a specialized repair shop in France, claims that such cases are by no means isolated. According to him, PS5s that stand upright for a long time are at risk of breakage, and this applies to all models, including the PS5 Digital Edition. Some users believe that Blu-Ray drive vibrations may exacerbate the PS5 Physical Edition issue.

Youtuber and console repairman TheCod3r believes that the problem is due to flaws in the design of the console. In a video earlier this year, he shows off a PS5 that hasn’t been unboxed yet and has been upright in its box for several months. The console would not start until he found and repaired the liquid metal leak.
