The cold of May left very good news in Vaca Muerta, since the activity level that mark the fracture stages to put new wells into production marked that it was the second month with the largest amount of this type of work in the history of shale formation with 1308 punctures.

According to the special report prepared by the Country Manager of the firm NCS Multistage, Luciano Fucello, for the Contactos Energéticos foundation, indicates that in May a total of 1308 fracture stages were performed in all areas of Vaca Muerta, 12% more than those registered in the previous month.

And it also marks that it is the second month with the most activity in the history of the formation, only surpassed by August of last year when 1,373 punctures were reached.

This increase in the pace of work implies that in a short time the production of Vaca Muertaboth for gas and oil, will increase, since these drilling works are the previous step so that the new wells can be connected.

In detail, the activity jump was due to two phenomena. On the one hand, a increased activity in the natural gas production segment hand in hand with the work carried out by companies such as Tecpetrol, Pampa Energía, Pluspetrol, TotalEnergies and YPF, in order to guarantee the filling of the Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline.

but the month also made it clear that the search for more oil had weight in the work, in this case by operators such as YPF, Vista, Chevron and Phoenix Global Resources (PGR).

Precisely, May marked that they were 8 operators that worked on their new wells and that they made the most of the number of fracture sets that are available, showing two notable facts.

On the one hand, the fracture set of the Tenaris firm that works for the operator Tecpetrol had its second month with more activity. With a total of 170 fractures performed, it is only surpassed by the mark reached in March, which was 175 stages.

While the second outstanding fact is that the North American firm Chevron had a record level of activity, performing a total of 127 fracture stages in the development of El Trapial Este that they carry out without partners. The company is YPF’s partner in Loma Campana, the great star development of Vaca Muerta. But there the operation work is in charge of the national flag firm.

In the El Trapial block is where the North American is putting her own meat on the grill, because is the unconventional area that they develop entirely on their own and that, unlike Loma Campana, is located in the north of Neuquén.

Anyway, YPF it continued to be the most active company in May, with 578 stages completed. He followed Tecpetrol with 170; and TotalEnergies con 135.

The list is completed with Chevron con 127; Pampa Energy con 93, Vista con 92; pluspetrol with 91 and Phoenix with 22 fracture stages completed in the month.
