Vaccination against monkeypox in the district of Warendorf is not an issue

In the Warendorf district, only one case of monkeypox is known to date. The infected person was infected outside of the district and there were no close contacts in the district. There is currently no general vaccination option, the district said when asked by RadioWAF.

District spokesman Felix Höltmann said the countries had been provided with limited but sufficient amounts of vaccine. The vaccine is only issued by the state to HIV specialist practices and to infection outpatient departments of the university clinics – both are available for the Warendorf district in Münster. Also, only these bodies are authorized to vaccinate.

There are strict guidelines for vaccination – it mainly goes to people without symptoms but with proven close contact with a case of monkeypox, and other people at increased risk. In any case, there is no specific vaccine against monkeypox in the EU; a general smallpox vaccine is used.
