Vaccination Campaign Against COVID and Flu: Prioritizing the Elderly and Vulnerable

The health authorities have just launched the vaccination campaign against covid and flu. For the moment few people feel concerned or no longer want to hear about it. The campaign is primarily aimed at those over 60 and the most vulnerable.

The dispensaries will have to organize themselves, a new vaccination campaign is starting against the flu, which caused 10 deaths in 2022, and against covid and its variants. Some will have difficulty getting back on the path to vaccination after more than a year of break.

The government’s objective is clear: vaccinate at least half of those over 60, or 20,000 people by April…without forgetting people with long-term illnesses or those suffering from obesity. “Our elders, our matahiapo, our most vulnerable must be vaccinated as much as possible. Covid, or its new version, the WHO estimates that it has less impact on the population. However, we have had serious cases, two are arrived at the CHPF since the return of the infection. It’s not very serious, but we have to be careful, we have to tell the most vulnerable people to go and get vaccinated.” insists Cédric Mercadal, Minister of Health.

In close collaboration with the WHO, specialists point out that one dose of vaccine per year is needed to revitalize the immune system…the new vaccines have just arrived in Polynesia. “This is why we recommend that people who are most likely to get the flu get vaccinated against the flu, (to avoid being hospitalized) and to die of this illness which is not a simple cold”explains Rémy Mayan, doctor specializing in infectious and tropical diseases.

45,000 doses of vaccine are still stored in the event of an epidemic…for the moment, no alert, just caution to minimize the risk of developing a serious form following the flu or covid virus.
