The federal ministry “Health Canada” gave the green light on Friday to administer a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech anti-Covid vaccine to children aged 5 to 11 years.
The chief administrator of the Public Health Agency of Canada, Dr Theresa Tam, stressed that updating vaccines before the fall was a “top priority”.
“This booster dose provides an excellent option for restoring protection to this age group, especially for those at high risk of disease,” she explained.

The booster dose can be given at least six months following the second dose.
This is the first COVID-19 vaccine authorized as a booster dose for this age group in the country.
According to the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI), “42% of the population aged 5 to 11 in Canada had received two vaccines as of July 17, 2022.
