Vaccination passport at the SAQ: a union says it fears for the safety of employees

The union of store and office employees of the SAQ says it fears the worst for employees with the introduction on Tuesday of the vaccine passport in the branches of the state-owned company.

The measures taken by the SAQ to meet the obligation of the vaccination passport are insufficient to guarantee the safety of the staff of the branches, believes the union affiliated with the CSN.

The SEMB-SAQ-CSN calls for the presence of a security guard at all times in SAQ stores to avoid dangerous situations for employees if they themselves have to refuse access to the store to unvaccinated customers.

Faced with the absence of clear guidelines from the employer, it is the employees who must improvise the means to be put in place to organize the control of access to the stores, according to the union.

“Our impression is that the SAQ has chosen to manage risks, to react only if untenable situations arise. We would have preferred a preventive approach aimed at eliminating the risks as much as possible for everyone,” union president Lisa Courtemanche said in a statement.

Ms. Courtemanche is calling for a change of direction from the employer to ensure worker safety.
