The Federal Office of Public Health (OFSP) and the Federal Commission for Vaccinations (CFV) issued their vaccination recommendations for the spring and summer of 2023 on Thursday. the two institutions announce that, from April, the vaccine will be recommended only to certain people at risk.

“It is estimated that the risk of individual infection and overloading the health care system will be low this spring and summer. The Omicron subvariants currently circulating cause rather mild infections compared to previous variants. People without risk factors are almost no more likely to fall seriously ill ”, detail the two institutions. In other words, no recommendation will be made for these people.

For vulnerable people, vaccination remains recommended, “only if their treating physician considers it to be medically necessary, and if it is assumed that it will temporarily strengthen protection against a serious form of the disease” . Vaccination also remains recommended for people with severe immunodeficiency.

For specialists, vaccination “has only a limited effect on the transmission of viruses currently in circulation”. The vaccination strategy of the FOPH and the CFV aims “always to reduce the serious forms of the disease and to guarantee the supply of care”. If a new coronavirus outbreak were to occur, the vaccine recommendations would be adapted.

The OFSP recalls that “each country sets its own rules concerning entry into its territory, such as vaccination against Covid-19 during a given period”. Travelers should inform themselves about these rules and get vaccinated if necessary. Note that “the costs related to a vaccination carried out for travel are the responsibility of the person concerned”.
