What a surprise: Vaduz beat Rapid Vienna in the Conference League playoff.
FC Vaduz makes a sensational entry into the group stage of the Conference League. The club from the Challenge League also survived the 3rd qualifying round: after the 1:1 at home there was a 1:0 win away in the playoff against Austria’s record champions Rapid Vienna.
The Liechtensteiners, who started poorly in the championship, scored the winning goal in Vienna in the 22nd minute through Tunahan Cicek. Twelve minutes later Kevin Wimmer, Rapid’s experienced defender, saw the red card for an emergency brake.
For Vaduz, who had eliminated Koper from Slovenia and Konyaspor from Turkey in previous rounds, it is the first qualification for a European Cup group stage. (SDA)
