Valais Store Opening Hours: Proposed LOM Revision for Clarity and Flexibility

2024-01-31 20:17:16

The revision of the law on the opening of stores (LOM) proposes a moderate extension of store closing hours on weekdays, from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

For the UDCVr, this change provides a direct response to changing consumer habits, allowing workers to shop after their workday. On Saturday, hours remain unchanged, and stores will close at 5 p.m.

Without such an adaptation, Valais businesses could suffer from competition in neighboring cantons and countries, which are already closing later than currently and only with the new law, the party further indicates in a press release.

The project also brings more clarity, adds the UDCVr. The roles of the cantonal and municipal authorities are clearly defined, ensuring consistent and equitable application.

For the UDC of French-speaking Valais and its group at the Grand Council, this revision of the LOM represents a balance between respect for rest time and the requirements of a society that has evolved.
