Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo F1) finished the day in 13 laps after crashing in the first free run of the 2022 F1 Round 5 Miami GP.
It’s important for all drivers to learn the track on their first day at the new Miami International Autodrome, but Valtteri Bottas spins on turn 7 in FP1 and crashes into the barrier. He lost valuable driving time.
The hard work of the Alfa Romeo F1 team mechanics forced Valtteri Bottas to keep an eye on the FP2 from the garage, at the cost of missing a simulation for qualifying and the final.
“From my side, it’s a really big sacrifice mistake. It’s frustrating,” said Valtteri Bottas at the end of Friday.

Only 13 laps, but when asked how he enjoyed the new track, Valtteri Bottas commented, “It’s a good track and it’s challenging.”
“There’s a twisty section in the second half, which may be the hardest part to put together correctly. The track evolution was big today and we have to catch up tomorrow.”
Teammate Zhou Guanyu proved Alfa Romeo F1’s packaging at least on Friday, 0.001 seconds ahead of Alpine F1’s Esteban Ocon to set the eighth fastest time.
“P1 is really slippery and I learned how to drift!” Zhou Guanyu jokingly said.
“It was very difficult for everyone around me.”
“P2 was a big improvement, and we found the right way and solution to set up for us as a team, and it looks pretty fast this weekend. This is a good sign and so far this track. I really enjoy driving. “
