Glasgow – Mathieu van der Poel has become the first Dutch road cycling world champion in 38 years. The classics specialist won on Sunday following 271.1 kilometers from Edinburgh to Glasgow ahead of Belgian Wout van Aert and Slovenian Tadej Pogacar. Even a fall 17 kilometers before the finish line mightn’t prevent the 28-year-old from winning solo. The best Austrian Patrick Gamper finished 22nd, 8:30 minutes behind.
