Synchronized swimmer Vasiliki Pagona Alexandri won her second medal at the World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka with silver in the free program after coming second in the technical program.

The 25-year-old solo swimmer scored 229.3251 points, only local hero Yukiko Inui was better on Wednesday with 254.6062. For her it was the second gold after that in the technique freestyle. Bronze went to Britain’s Kate Shortman with 219.9542.

Alexandri, trained by Albena Mladenova, chose the second-highest level of difficulty for her free program for “Sound of Nature” with 37.00, only Inui had more on the card among all twelve finalists with 38.95.

Vasiliki Alexandri’s successes cannot be ranked highly enough, as she can look back on a not smooth preparation due to a problem with her back. For this reason, she also had to cancel the trip to the European Games in Poland, where she wanted to be there as moral support for her triplet sisters Anna-Maria and Eirini-Marina.

The two provided loud support in the hall on Wednesday, on Thursday they will go for a medal themselves in a duet in the free program. In the technique freestyle, the disappointment was great after fifth place.
