Vegas Golden Knights disappointed in close game against New Jersey Devils

Last night, the Vegas Golden Knights were in Newark to face the Devils, a club that is not meeting expectations this year.

That said, the Knights, who are once again an NHL power, escaped the game by a score of 6-5. The club therefore scored five goals, but they also gave too many to their opponents.

And that didn’t make Bruce Cassidy, the Vegas coach, happy.

The coach highlighted the offensive effort of a few trios, but he wasn’t exactly happy to see the defensive effort deployed (or not deployed) by his flock. He thinks it was a lack of respect for the game.

The Knights deserved to lose, he said.

Obviously, there is a difference between a performance like this from a club like Vegas, the reigning Stanley Cup champions, and the Canadiens, a club that is rebuilding.

But in both cases, even if Martin St-Louis did not react as strongly after the matches last Thursday and Saturday, we can understand the dissatisfaction of a coach.

That being said, I wonder to what extent Cassidy’s comments were motivated at all by the fact that tonight the club will face the New York Islanders on Long Island.

And when I say the New York Islanders, I mean Patrick Roy’s Islanders.

After all, we know that the new Islanders coach had an impact on Sunday, as New York beat Dallas. The effect of Roy’s arrival will undoubtedly mean that the Islanders will not be “easy to play against” tonight.

And if there’s anyone who knows it, it’s Jonathan Marchessault, who had Roy as a coach in Quebec back in the day.

Remember that this evening, Patrick Roy will coach his second game for the Islanders. Meanwhile, the Senators, a club that would have benefited from hiring Roy, will be in Montreal. And on Thursday, Patrick Roy will be in Montreal.

Cassidy knows that every victory is important… and the Canadian must hope that he will not let Patrick Roy gain even more confidence in view of Thursday evening’s duel in the Temple.
