Venezuela begins preparations to participate in the Caribe Wave 2023 tsunami exercise

The Ministry for Interior Relations, Justice and Peace (MPPRIJP) reported that Venezuela began preparation for the annual exercise on Caribe Wave tsunamis, represented by authorities of the National Risk Management System.

The first meeting was held through a virtual meeting, corresponding to the Caribe Wave 2023 International Exercise, which will be held on February 23 with the execution of two tsunami drills in parallel: one in the Gulf of Honduras and another in the north of the Martinique Island.

Each country must focus its participation on the event for which it has been chosen, whose activities will last around four and a half hours, depending on conditions.

The entity indicated that the participation of Venezuela in the Caribbean Wave will be coordinated by the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (Funvisis), an entity attached to the Vice Ministry for Risk Management and Civil Protection.

The Caribe Wave is an event organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) to strengthen the prior preparation of countries in the face of this type of adverse event and thus minimize the losses they generate.

On this occasion, the Caribbean Wave 2023 will have the participation of 45 countries, among which Canada and Peru stand out as observers.
