Venezuelans criticize Maduro’s message on telecommunications

Nicolas Maduro telecommunications

Nicholas Maduro published on his Twitter account that access to telecommunications “is a reality since Cantv was nationalized.”

These statements generated rejection on the part of the citizens, asserting that every day the internet and telephony are more deficient. Many claimed that they continued to pay billing without enjoying the services for fear of losing ownership of the account.

“The well-being of the people will be well-being for the technicians’ pockets, if you don’t have dollars, they don’t fix your signal, you know what it’s like 11 years requesting a line and they don’t give you an answer, for God’s sake, don’t be so cheeky,” wrote one user.

Another comment that appeared was: “That service is useless, that company is a joke.”

“But I don’t understand President, how do you say that if the failures are rarely attended to and they must save them with something so that they solve us. Cantv is destroyed, just go out and see the cable laying and in populated areas the internet doesn’t even exist,” was another of the tweets that was read.

According to the Venezuelan Observatory of Public Services (OVSP), in its most recent study, determined that between the months of January and February 2022, only 36.1% of the citizens surveyed, in 12 cities in the country, have fixed internet service in their homes. On the other hand, 63.8% do not have the benefit.

It was also known that in February of this year Barcelona (24.1%), Punto Fijo (24.5%) and Ciudad Bolívar (27.5%) stood out as the cities with the lowest numbers of subscribers with internet service. Likewise, Porlamar, since January 2021, is among the first three cities with the least access to internet service.

Users demanded improvements in the internet service

Despite these results, 55.9% of users acknowledged that the behavior of the service is positive in some way. However, they highlighted that there are aspects that must be improved to consider it optimal, since sometimes they lose the speed of navigation or lose the signal.

“Regarding the evaluation of quality by cities, Maracaibo (80.2%), Barquisimeto (63.5%), Barinas (60.8%) concentrated the highest percentages of users who evaluate the service positively, in comparison with the other evaluated cities. In the case of Punto Fijo (56.1%), it was positioned in fifth place”, pointed out the Venezuelan Observatory of Public Services.
