Everyone stokes purgatory themselves: Verdi’s “Requiem” comes to the stage in St.Gallen as a monstrous funeral ceremony

The last production in the theater provisional premiered on Saturday evening was Giuseppe Verdi’s “Messa da Requiem” in the scenic version by Krystian Lada. All four departments of the Theater St.Gallen work together for this – but the music speaks most forcefully under the direction of chief conductor Modestas Pitrenas.

Virginia Woolf (here the dancer Emily Pak) hears voices and feels the approaching madness: one of the most impressive scenes in the interplay of dance, drama and music in «Messa da Requiem».

It is currently killing properly in the St.Gallen temporary theater. The hall and foyer still exude a certain new building charm after almost two years of operation. However, the days are numbered: with the interdisciplinary production of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Messa da Requiem”, the last production celebrated its premiere there on Saturday.
