The current champion spoke about his future in F1 and left the door open.
Although his contract with Red Bull ends only at the end of 2028, the current champion of the formula 1, Max Verstappen, He talked about his future and surprised locals and strangers by leaving the door open to a possible step aside after his relationship with the Austrian team comes to an end.
Verstappen thinks about leaving Formula 1: the reason
At just 17 years old, the Dutch driver took his first steps in F1 forming the Red Bull Junior Team, and then in 2015 he was confirmed as one of the drivers of the Toro Rosso team together with Carlos Sainz Jr, thus becoming the youngest competitor in a grand prix, surpassing the record held by Jaime Alguersuari for almost two years.
In the energizer team he still has thread on the spool, but when his contract expires his idea is to experience new sensations. “I have not yet decided what I will do after my contract ends in 2028, although it may stop. I have been in Formula 1 since I was 17 years old, it is a long time and I’ve been here many seasons already, so you may want to do something different. I would like to try another type of racing, long distance”, Versatppen said in dialogue with Sky Germany.
However, the current defender of the world title warned: “My problem is that whenever I participate in something, I really want to win it,” to then continue explaining the reason for his possible decision in the not so distant future: “Maybe I’m already tired of traveling for so long, I might want a simpler life and just run the races I like.”
Likewise, the native of Hasselt, Belgium, assured that he does not imagine being a commentator for the grand prix either, nor does he see the possibility of being part of the paddock as an analyst within a team as tangible: “I don’t see myself as an analyst or in a different role within a team in the future, I don’t have the motivation for that. When I’m not driving anymore, I’ll do other kinds of fun things.”
Verstappen and the Triple Crown: his categorical answer
In the interview he gave with Sky Germany, the pilot from the Netherlands was asked if his wish is to go for the conquest of the Triple Crown, but Verstappen was blunt when answering about it. “I have no interest in getting the Triple Crown, it doesn’t appeal to me, at least not in IndyCar. It’s crazy what those drivers do and for that I have a lot of respect for them.”he maintained, and then added: “I have no reason to risk my life or injure my legs.”
It should be noted that in order to win said medal, a competitor must win the Monaco Grand Prix, las 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Indianapolis 500 Miles.
