Veteran Japanese actress Akiko Nomura dies at home at 95 after suspected heatstroke

Actress Nomura Akiko, who performed in well-known Japanese dramas such as the popular longevity series “The World”, was found dead at home by relatives on the evening of the 1st at the age of 95. As Tokyo was hit by a heat wave, sources said the cause of death was suspected to be heat stroke.

“Sanspo” reported that a heat wave hit Tokyo recently, and Tokyo ushered in a “severe heat day” with a high temperature of more than 35 degrees for 9 consecutive days, setting a record for the longest since 1875. On the 1st, the highest temperature in Tokyo reached 37 degrees. At around 7 p.m. local time, Akiko Nomura, who lived alone, was found dead in her bedroom by relatives. A source close to her pointed out that she was suspected of having died of heatstroke.

The sudden news also made the surrounding neighbors quite sad. The owner of a nearby sushi restaurant pointed out in an interview that Akiko Nomura would chat with them two or three times a day, but he had not been seen in recent days. Nomura Akiko was born in 1927. She has performed in many films and plays such as the film “Redbeard” by the well-known director Kurosawa Akira, and has attracted attention. She later performed Taki Aoyama, who helped the small restaurant “Okakura” in the Japanese longevity drama “Cold and Warm World”, and her close acting skills were well received.

In 1956, she married director Zeng Jian Liqing, and her husband died of acute pneumonia in 2001. She later developed breast cancer twice. Now living alone.
