Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) spoke positively regarding the housing cost subsidy agreed with the coalition partner in the “ZiB 2” on Wednesday. The subsidy agreed with the ÖVP totaling 225 million euros helps low earners in particular. “What we have now is a subsidy for those who earn less,” says Kogler. It is the opposite of the watering can principle and also helps those who do not pay reference rents. The Green politician nevertheless emphasized the importance of a rental price brake, as this would have slowed down inflation. Kogler advocated both a housing subsidy and a rent control.
