A few weeks ago, Amie Coltman, 24, was the victim of an accident in Nicaragua. While riding in a tuk-tuk, a popular means of transport in the area, she was suddenly ejected from the vehicle due to poor road conditions.

The shock was violent and Amie, like several other tourists, was injured. Seriously, since she ended up with two fractures in her back. The problem is that the first doctor she saw assured her that she was fine. He had sent her home with… a little Ibuprofen and paracetamol.

In the hours that followed, the state of health of the young woman from Nottingham obviously deteriorated and Amie was sent to another hospital. There, an X-ray confirmed that she had two fractures. The problem is that the treatment was valued at 15,000 pounds sterling. Not to mention the 1,000 pounds to be paid for each night spent in hospital.

According to the Independent, which relays Amie’s story, Amie’s insurance company refused to cover these costs. The young woman therefore found herself with a hospitalization bill of more than 30,000 pounds sterling, or about 35,000 euros. “The insurance company immediately called the hospital to say that they could not pay for this treatment because Amie had traveled in a vehicle which was not safe, which did not have a seat belt”, Zoe, Amie’s sister, explained to the Mirror.

An amount that the young woman obviously does not have, who had been in the region as a volunteer for several weeks.

His relatives have therefore launched a call for donations via a GoFundMe page. This was launched on August 21 and more than £20,000 has already been raised.

Reassured, the young woman posted a message on Facebook to thank all the people who gave a little of their money.
