Jakob Pöltl celebrated his “homecoming” to San Antonio with a comeback victory in the National Basketball Association (NBA) on Sunday. The center from Vienna won with the Toronto Raptors 123:116 following overtime following being 22 points behind once morest the Spurs led by young star Victor Wembanyama. Pöltl recorded 16 points and ten rebounds – his third double-double of the season – as well as three steals and a block in 28:30 minutes of action.

Pöltl was in San Antonio for the first time since his comeback for Toronto in February. He was officially farewelled with a video recording and much applause. The Viennese played for long-time coach Gregg Popovich’s team for four and a half years.

After the cordiality, Pöltl and his colleagues on the field quickly found themselves behind. The score was 32:54 from the Canadians’ perspective shortly before halftime. However, because the Raptors came out of the locker room with much more energy than before, the comeback and turnaround should still be successful. It went into overtime at 110:110, in which Toronto had the longer breath.

Scottie Barnes scored 30 points for Toronto. With eleven rebounds, like Pöltl, he scored twice in double figures. Keldon Johnson was the hosts’ most successful thrower with 26 points. “Wemby” had 20 points, nine rebounds and five blocks.

Pöltl and colleagues are staying in Texas for the time being. On Wednesday they will be visiting the Dallas Mavericks in the third of four away games in a row.
