This Friday, April 8, the Caracas Metro was once again a trend after a video was released showing the moments of anguish experienced by users when the train they were traveling on derailed.

The clip shows how a series of unusual movements take place, while the coupling area between the two wagons becomes uneven.

Although at first it was believed that the situation occurred this Friday, the account Subway Community –managed by workers, retirees and former workers of the capital’s subway – clarified that the incident occurred on Thursday night, April 7, between the Petare and Palo Verde stations.

It should be remembered that in the latter, as it is a terminal station, there is an area known as the “manoeuvre zone”. In it, trains can change tracks, either to park or to return to the Propatria direction.

Metro Comunidad specified that the derailment happened at approximately 10:00 pm. This explains the low number of users in the cars that is observed in the video, compared to the hours of greatest influx.

«When the train was moving through the forward maneuvering zone of Palo Verde, one of the switch-tracks failed when the 5th car passed over it. This caused the first four cars to continue in one direction, while the other five tried to go in another, pulling the rest. For this reason, as can be seen in the video, the misalignment between the two wagons is noticeable at the level of couplings -which is the union of two wagons- and, therefore, the movements or jumps of the train are generated on the changer needles- tracks, causing the derailment,” he explained.
