A video that recently went viral on the web shows the exact moment a man invades the Apple Bay Street (in California, United States) and does a real “cleaning”, taking with him several of the iPhones that were on display for consumers.
In the recording, it is possible to hear the sound of sirens as the crime takes place. Hooded, the thief was apparently not armed, while visitors and Apple Store employees “calmly” followed him, putting the devices in his clothes and leaving the place.
According to information from Daily Mailwhich highlighted that Apple employees are discouraged from reacting in these situations, the man took the whole 49 iPhones. Outside, after passing without challenge a police car parked in front of the store, he got into the car that was waiting for him to escape.
According to local officials, the parked vehicle was one of the many police “ghost cars” that are located in various locations solely as a form of intimidation — meaning that there was no one actually inside. Apparently, the man who broke into the store knew this very well and the technique does not fulfill the objective of intimidating.
As Apple generally keeps its stock of sealed devices in a separate area of its stores, the man only had access to “showcase” type iPhones. Although they are limited in terms of software and have security systems, they can be useful for criminals to remove some of their parts.
Man arrested in UK
